Lake Placid 2023 FISU World Conference
Save Winter is a movement to unite all of us who love winter to work as one to save the season of snow.
Our sustainability initiatives play a role in every aspect of games, operations, planning and production. “Together We Can – Save Winter” is our motto and these are some of the ways we are committed to making a difference:
We are incorporating hybrid and electric vehicles when possible. In some cases, we are substituting generators with renewable electric batteries and addressing the carbon footprint of athlete travel with tree planting projects. The local electric power grid is 100% renewable.
We will institute tri-sort waste systems throughout the games, avoid single use
We are working with vendors and suppliers to provide responsible sourcing guidelines and supplier code of conduct.
We are working to ensure diversity within our staff, volunteer team, procurement practices and training materials.
The Lake Placid 2023 FISU World Conference is themed "Save Winter" and will focus on the intersection of climate change and winter sports.
The legacy of the Lake Placid 2023 FISU Games will be improved infrastructure, a new generation of volunteers, and a lasting awareness of the intersection between climate change and winter sports.
More than 40 million of us enjoy winter sports and recreation. Save Winter will help ensure we’re doing everything we can to reduce our impact on the planet and enjoy winter as it was meant to be enjoyed. It’s about more than just now—it’s about keeping winter for generations to come.
To learn how we can have a positive impact, explore the Save Winter Eco Challenge. It provides information on how we can all work together to help save the season for everyone.

We recognize that the chance to find sport, adventure, and beauty in winter has not been equally shared. If we’re going to work as one to Save Winter, we need to see this as a profound opportunity to make the future better than the past, and to reflect on all the ways that we can turn our shared purpose into a real chance to open doors to true inclusion. In that spirit we will do all we can to amplify the voices of everyone who chooses to Save Winter. Please join us alongside these and other organizations to take action against climate change:
