Premier Resort Showcases Sustainability During the January 12-22 Lake Placid 2023 FISU Games

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, building on more than a decade of eco-friendly hospitality, has been named a Bronze Level Partner, Official Hotel Provider to the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, the Adirondack Sports Council announced today.

The Main Street resort sits on the shore of Mirror Lake, Lake Placid’s crown jewel and the center of activity in both summer and winter. During the Jan. 12-22 FISU World University Games, the largest international winter multisport and educational event for collegiate athletes ages 17-25, the Lake Placid Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort will be an Official Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games Village, housing figure skating and short track speed skating athletes. It will also house the final four men’s and women’s ice hockey teams that will vie for the FISU gold medal in the famed Herb Brooks Arena.

“We’re excited to partner with one of Lake Placid’s premier lodging properties, the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort,” said Ashley Walden, executive director of the Adirondack Sports Council, the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games’ Organizing Committee. “Being situated on the historic Mirror Lake and in the heart of the village’s Main Street, the Golden Arrow is just steps away from the Olympic Center, Lake Placid 2023 FISU Games Festival Village and Medals Plaza.”

Bringing together more than 1,443 collegiate-athletes from 540 universities and 43 nations to Lake Placid and New York State’s North Country region, the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games is also the first to make sustainability a major theme through its “Save Winter” campaign that it hopes will be a model for all future FISU Games.

That makes for a natural partnership with the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, which has emphasized earth-friendly hospitality for more than a decade through Audubon International, a not-for-profit organization helping businesses identify and implement high standard practices for environmental sustainability.

In 2009, the Golden Arrow was the first resort in the United States to achieve Audubon International’s five-leaf rating (the highest possible) with features such as in-room recycling, solar-thermal panels, energy-efficient lighting and heating, green procurement, e-waste recycling, storm water management, a green roof and more.

Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort owner and general manager Jennifer Holderied added, “We are so delighted to be a part of this legacy creating event in Lake Placid and are especially pleased at the focus the Games place on sustainability.”
