LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Adirondack Sports Council announced today that Adirondack Health has been named the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games’ Official Medical Services Partner, and Lake Placid Sports Medicine as its Official Orthopaedic Partner.

“We’re excited to partner with both Adirondack Health and Lake Placid Sports Medicine and their highly skilled and caring staffs,” said Ashley Walden, executive director of the Adirondack Sports Council, the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games’ Organizing Committee. “As a resident of Lake Placid, I appreciate the above and beyond services provided to me, my family and the Tri-Lakes’ region by Adirondack Health and Lake Placid Sports Medicine. As a former international competitor in the sport of luge, I learned first-hand the value that these caring and professional individuals bring to the overall well-being and recovery of elite level athletes.”

The FISU World University Games is the largest international winter multisport and educational event for collegiate-athletes ages 17-25. The Lake Placid 2023 FISU Games, Jan. 12-22, is expected to bring together more than 2,500 athletes and delegates from 600 universities and 50-plus nations to Lake Placid and New York State’s North Country region, to compete in 12 sports and 86 medal events.

Under the agreement, Adirondack Health will make its Lake Placid fitness center, pool, and rehabilitation space available to athletes and training staff. It will also expand its imaging coverage. Lake Placid Sports Medicine will provide its office space as the Main Medical Center for the Games’ athletes, delegations, accredited volunteers and guests.

Adirondack Health President & CEO Aaron Kramer added, “Adirondack Health is proud to serve as the official medical services partner of the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games. Our clinicians and staff are deeply committed to caring for the communities in which they live and work. We look forward to continuing to elevate our legacy of healing, whether we’re talking about elite athletes or everyday friends, neighbors and visitors.”

Dr. Tracey Viola, Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games’ head of medical services & doping control, added, “The entire staff at Lake Placid Sports Medicine has had a long-standing reputation for providing outstanding sports medicine and orthopaedic care, not only to the elite level athletes that train and compete in Lake Placid, but to the entire Lake Placid community and beyond. The athletes who will be competing in January will receive outstanding care.”
